Netfile 6 May 2008 Extension

If you are like me and have not been able to file your tax return through CRA's Netfile site they have acknowledged the volume of users is a problem and extended the filing date until midnight 6 May 2008 for employees and 16 June 2008 for self-employed individuals. You still have to pay any owing taxes by midnight 30 April 2008, but you can take a break and file your return when the Netfile site isn't drowning in traffic.

Here is the official notice from the CRA.

Nano Photos

Photo: Materials Research Society

From this Wired Article:

"Silicon oxide nanowires have an amusing habit of arranging themselves into impressive patterns. When S.K. Hark, a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, looked at some of them under a scanning electron microscope, he saw flowers. Unlike plants, their fertilizers were gallium and gold catalysts -- which allowed them to grow to several microns in length while maintaining a roughly 10-nanometer diameter. The physics professor colorized his award-winning crop to enhance their resemblance to real sunflowers."

Jo-Ann - The Early Years

I love this photo. It will be interesting to see if Jeff & Jo-Ann's daughter lays down the law at an equally young age.

Got Style?

I sure don't! For the longest time I thought MEC was a designer label..=-) But, don't worry LG has your back ladies. Check out her Fashionista Social Club Blog for the latest fashion yumminess.

The trouble with techno...

...is that I'll be bopping along to some banging track enjoying some weird, funky sounds or sample only to find out later it was:
  • the kettle whistling
  • my mobile ringing
  • the neighbours banging on the wall
  • the fire alarm

49th Parallel Espresso

Deanna gave me a bag of 49th Parallel espresso to try out. Very tasty! I am actually way over stocked on espresso so if you live in Calgary and want a free sample I'll hook you up. If you are looking to buy some gourmet coffee you should check out the stock at Rarified. I'd give them a call at 403.939.4042 as the website may not reflect all the yumminess they have available.

To find something original and true...

"To find something original and true, something timeless, you cannot come to it with the burden of memory, knowledge. The known, the past, can never help you to discover the moving, the creative. No amount of technique or learning, no amount of attending talks and discussions, can ever reveal to you the unknown. If you really see the truth of this, actually experience it for yourself, then you are free of all Masters and gurus, of all teachers, saints, and saviors. Because, they can only teach you what is known, and the mind which is burdened with the known can never find what is unknowable."

Crackberry...

It was inevitable I'd end up with a smart phone for constant access to the net. Let's be honest - if it wasn't for the letters WWW I'd be living in a log cabin somewhere in the Yukon building letter bombs. So far the Crackberry experience has been good, but then again I haven't rec'd my first month's bill..=-)

Not only will you now be able to reach me virtually 24/7, but you'll also be sure if I'm not responding to your emails I really am ignoring you...LMAO....=-)

I'll report back when I actually have a few GBs of experience with this bad boy.

My Doctor Died!

I called in to my Doctor's Office to get an appointment and they were giving me the run around with talk about who is filling in for him and when they could see me. So I finally just said..."...how long is Dr. X on vacation for?.." That was met with silence.."...well actually he died..." What could I say..."...sorry about that - that sucks..." To which the nurse replied..."...yeah it does..."

After 20 years of not having a family doctor I cave and make it happen - then he dies....sigh...I hope I wasn't bad luck!

Stop Thief!

This dog seemed harmless - friendly even, but his true colours surfaced when he tried to make off with Kurt's skateboard...=-)

Dwayne @ Community

Community Natural Foods - a decent store close to my apartment...too bad the aisles are so darn narrow two people can't get past each other. This is a prime example of too much stuff in too small a space. They'd sell more products if they only stocked 60% of what they do now.

Laptop Party

...when in doubt geek out!

It's back...

The crazy thing isn't that it snowed today - it's that on the weekend it will be sunny +15 to +20 deg C.

Holy Grill

I haven't been to the Holy Grill in quite a while. Not sure why as my experiences there have always been great. I suppose I'm more inclined to find an Indian, Thai or Vietnamese restaurant when I'm hungry. However, if you are going to go for burgers you might as well go for amazingly fresh and tasty burgers. In that regard the Holy Grill delivers.

Located right across the road from MEC on 10th St SW the Holy Grill is a small space, but nicely appointed. The menu is limited, but offers something for most palates. I've only ever had the burgers here so I won't comment on the other offerings - although I assume they would be of the same caliber. The friendly staff are polite and attentive when taking your order at the counter. Your food is made fresh for you and they'll call you by name when it is ready.

It shouldn't be such a revelation how good fresh simple food tastes, but it is a rare commodity these days.

Hooping.org posted my pic of Anna getting her hoop on at the March 2007 FMG. Good work Hooper-Annie!...=-)
